The Amherst Town Board, led by Sup. Brian Kulpa all have unanimously voted with no amendments made from residents’ concerns to enter into a 30 year lease contract with a private company and take on a $11 million bond to primarily fund the private company’s new theater building for 30 years, using resident property tax money.

Randall Kramer’s company has to pay no interest on any of the debt, and only has to pay $3.3 million of the total $11 million loan for construction costs. Kramer’s company also only has to pay $1 a year to lease the building from the town. The lease contract also says no other theater company is allowed to perform indoors on the 171 acres of tax paid for public land for 30 years, except for Randy Kramer’s company.

The $11 million bond vote comes only months after town of Amherst residents had to pay 11.4% increased property tax bills due to debt service needs by the town for projects.
